What You Need to Play:
At least 4 people (the more the merrier, however!)
1 card deck (add a second deck if you have more than 7 players)
A table
Lots and lots of beer
The Basics:
Positions: President, vice president, secretary, vice secretary, vice
asshole, asshole (more positions can be made up if needed). The
rank above is in order of power. The president can make anyone
drink; the vice president can make everyone below him drink etc.
Objective: Be the first person to lay all of your cards down, thus
becoming President. Use your power. Make people drink.
Rules of the game: The President can make anyone drink. And
people, no one likes a nice President...also the Vice Prez can make
anyone below him/her drink, and so on. The only time the Asshole
can make anyone drink is when he or she is dealing cards for the
next hand. Once the last card is laid, the Asshole's powers cease.
(Note: If you are the Asshole and are making people drink, be
prepared for Hell when the game begins, as EVERYONE at the table
can make you drink).
Asshole deals cards face down, starting with himself, then to the left,
according to ascending rank. This is why seating is important, as the
Pres will often get the fewest cards.
The President always gets the two best cards from the Asshole, and
gives his two worst cards to the Asshole. Likewise, the Vice President
gets 1 best card from Vice Asshole, and gives 1 worst card to Vice
Asshole. Everyone else plays the hand they were dealt. If the Vice
Asshole or Asshole are caught not giving their best cards away, they
are automatically the Asshole or Vice Asshole for the next round (plus
a likely hefty fine of drinking for non-compliance).
The President lays the first card and play goes by rank. This is why
you should seat yourselves around the table in order of rank,
changing seats each time there is a new President, VP, Secretary,
and so on. Seating should start with Asshole and move to the left
around the table from lowest rank to highest (President should be at
the right side of Asshole).
3 is the lowest card and cards should be played in ascending order. It
is up to the players to decide if doubles and triples must be played
separately (meaning that if one 3 is laid down, the next player cannot
throw down double 3s and must wait until pile is cleared to throw
doubles or triples). It is faster and easier to allow doubles on singles
and triples on singles, but it's up to the President or group.
2s clear the pile and play resumes with lowest card being laid down
by whoever laid the 2. If you have a 2, you'll want to use it when you
really need to get rid of a card that has not been played much.
However, a 2 cannot be played when there are no cards on the pile
(how can you clear nothing?). Also, you cannot use the 2 as your last
card.
If two of the same card are laid down (player 1 lays a 4 then player 2
lays a 4), the next player is skipped and must drink.
If anyone lays down a card and someone in the group has the 4th
card of that group (the 4th 6, the 4th Jack, etc) that player can lay
down his card out of turn, clearing the pile and getting the chance to
lay down the next card.
When the 4th card is played, it is called a social, where everyone
raises their glass and drinks.
If anyone besides the Asshole clears the pile at any time, he or she is
automatically the Asshole for the next game.
If someone gets to be President for three straight rounds, he or she
can make up any rule they want (all players drink on card 5s, Asshole
must compliment the President every time he lays a card down, etc).
First Hand: Pick a random dealer and deal all cards face down. Deal
to the left of the dealer and around the table until all cards are dealt.
If there are extra cards, it is more fun to just play as whoever ends up
with the extra just plays their hand. You can take the extra cards out
of the mix, but it disrupts the flow of the game (skips, clears, doubles,
triples, etc).
Whoever hold the 3 of clubs begins the game. Play follows a
clockwise motion, and no one can make another drink yet, unless the
person has been skipped or there is a social. Whoever goes out first
is President, second is Vice President, and so on, until Asshole is
made.
President chooses where he or she wants to sit, Asshole sits to left or
the Pres, and seating continues from left of Asshole in ascending
rank (Asshole, Vice-Ass, Vice-Secretary, Secretary, Vice-Pres,
President).
Rest of Hands: Once ranks are set, play resumes following the rules
above.
